Long-throw polishers are capable of accomplishing higher levels of correction in less time than their traditional random-orbital alternatives. The nature of orbital polishers is to rotate and oscillate at the same time. The "throw" of an orbital polisher refers to the distance the pad travels from it's center axis while oscillating. Normal random orbital polishers only travel about 5 millimeters from their center access, whereas long-throw polishers travel about 13 millimeters during oscillation! What that means is that the pad is covering a greater distance in the same amount of time as a normal random orbital polisher.
